Germicidal lamps are designed to emit UVC radiation because of its ability to kill bacteria. UVC is almost never observed in nature because it is absorbed completely in the atmosphere, as are Far UV and Vacuum UV. Unique hazards apply to the different sources depending on the wavelength range of the emitted UV radiation. If a product does not display either “broad-spectrum protection” or “protection from UVA light,” it is likely that it only offers protection from UVB light. The label broad-spectrum has become a popular label in sunscreens in recent years. It is important to use sunscreen that protects you from both UVB and UVA rays.
